Our Pax Romana global movement is an international lay Catholic network of
intellectuals, professionals, and university students with more than 100 years of
history, and embracing some 420,000 members in 80 countries. Our global
movement also maintains specialized secretariats for agronomists, artists, business
people, engineers, jurists, teachers and scientists.

Our Pax Romana global movement serves as a United Nations NGO (non-
governmental organization) with the highest level consultative status to the United
Nations Economic and Social Council. We maintain NGO Missions to UN Centers in
New York, Paris (UNESCO), Geneva, and Vienna. We are also accredited to the
Holy See (Vatican)through its Pontifical Council for the Laity and its Office of the
    Secretary of State.

The roots of Pax Romana go back to 1887 when the movement first began as an
international Catholic university-student network initiated and supported by Catholic
intellectuals and professionals, The movement's communications center was at the
University of Fribourg in Switzerland. In 1921 Pax Romana was juridically
established as an international Catholic lay movement officially recognized by the
    Holy See.

In support of our movement's work for reconciliation after World War I, Pope
Benedict XV gave us the name of "Pax Romana." Two later popes served earlier in
their careers as Pax Romana chaplains in their countries, namely Pope Paul VI in
Italy and Pope John Paul II in Poland.

In 1947 the global Pax Romana movement reorganized into two cooperating
branches:one for university students, and another for intellectuals professionals.
Today the two Pax Romana branches are know internationally as:

  • Pax Romana/ IMCS -MIEC (International Movement of Catholic Students/Movement
International de Estudiants Catholiques/ Movimiento de Estudiantes Catolicos)

  • Pax Romana ICMICA-MIIC (International Movement for Intellectual & Cultural Affairs/
Movement International de Intellectuels Catholiques/Movimiento Internacional de
    Intelectuales Catolicos)
